Work in progress / Mokifuboku
By MARIYA Mariya · Tokyo
Work in progress / Mokifuboku . Evocative scene . . Mokifuboku refers to a miraculous scene described in Buddhist parables such as the Nirvana Sutra, where a blind turtle, surfacing only once every hundred years, coincidentally encounters a hole in a piece of driftwood drifting in the vast ocean. It symbolizes an event so rare it's almost impossible, and illustrates the preciousness of being born as a human, meeting someone, and existing here and now. This concept also connects to the feeling of 'arigatai' (gratitude), which is said to be the origin of 'arigato' (thank you). . .
